BIS Critique
Many thanks to the Northern Schnauzer Club for the honour of awarding Best In Show at their prestigious show.
Three experienced breed judges had put forward lovely representatives of their particular breed.
Best In Show was the outstanding Miniature Schnauzer Manser and Lowton-Humphries Esp Ch Manit’s Nothing Compares to You with Nujax, beautifully put together black and silver male who just shouts breed type. Moved around the ring as though he owned it and today he did. Immaculately presented as always from this exhibitor.
Reserve BIS the Giant Galbraiths Gloris Glorious with Fostergiants, 6 year old black male with a lovely neck, head and expression. Well constructed with correct shoulder placement and quarters, moved out really well.
Best Puppy In Show the Miniature Schnauzer Boyles Stormovar Déjà Vu 8 months quality baby so well put together with reachy neck and slightly sloping topline. Nicely balanced and would not change her in any way. Pushed hard by the Standard but she just had that extra maturity along with her positive movement.
Best Veteran the Standard Moores Ch Fillipers As Good As Gold nine and a half years and certainly not looking her age. Shapely bitch with typical head and keen expression, movement was sound and enthusiastic. An excellent representative from this famous kennel.

Miniature Schnauzer Critique
I offer sincere thanks to the Officers & Committee of the NSC for their invitation to judge at their championship show. Their welcome and hospitality was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to my two stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly and to the exhibitors for their super entry and sportsmanship with my decisions. I was looking for a cobby, robust, nearly square balanced dog with a keen expression and alert attitude. A good strong head with a powerful muzzle is so important in the breed. Unfortunately, I found some lacked substance under the eyes resulting in snipey narrow jaws and small teeth. Important too is correct ear carriage/size and head proportions to achieve that Schnauzer “down the nose” expression. Coats were generally good in texture and presentation of exhibits was superb. Movement should be free flowing and balanced not short and stilted in profile. I found variation in size a little concerning for the future of the breed. There was however some real quality in the breed, generally the bitches had more depth of quality within their classes. I was very pleased with my place winners
Class 35: Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1) Manser’s Nujax Blue Moon. A very well constructed puppy, good head and expression, neck sloping into well laid-back shoulders, short coupled, good depth to chest, correct topline, good tail set & carriage. Saw enough of his free-flowing movement to assess but needs to gain confidence when moving alone, once achieved I see a bright future for this youngster. BPD
2) Moorcroft’s Amorevita Uranus. Slightly larger than 1, nicely proportioned head, good ear carriage. Great colour to coarse black jacket. Level topline, good tail set & carriage. Would prefer a longer stride in when moving.
Class 36: Puppy Dog (2,1abs)
1) MacMullen’s Anka’s Stars Ares at Edenreagh. 8month baby stood alone. A nice head, a lovely forechest and depth to chest but longer in the loin than I would like and was rather wayward in his movement coming and going.
Class 37: Junior Dog (2)
1) Longdin & Davidson’s Wellingley Whisky Business. A balanced dog of correct proportions, cobby in appearance, good depth to chest and spring of rib. Correct expression. Moved well around the ring. Better front movement than 2 which won him the class.
2) Descere’s Dorado Tyras Akvamarinas at Amorevita (Imp LTU). Quality head with lovely expression, coat colour and texture very good, nicely muscled and angulated at the rear, lacking reach on front movement.
Class 38: Post Graduate Dog (6)
1) Sharland’s Wellingley Way On Up. Great coat on this nicely proportioned P/S dog, neat ears and good head which resulted in a correct expression. Deep chest, good topline which was retained on the move, best mover in the class.
2) McDermott’s Lichstone Midnight Ghost. Smaller than 1, was well proportioned. Neat ears which he used well, very alert. Head & expression fair with an adequate reach of neck.
3) Bell’s Glockens Everybody’s Talkin.
Class 39: Limit Dog (7, 3abs)
1) Partner’s Soletrader Mad Max at Onfleek. Lovely head and expression, adequate neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest, topline gently sloping to the tail. Good rear angulation all finished with a super P/S jacket. Moved out well in profile.
2) Hood’s Starbound Satchmo. Smaller than 1 but in correct proportions. Nice head and expression. Cobby male with a deep chest in good coat. Did not hold his topline as well as 1. Moved out okay.
3) Boyle’s Stornovar Rocketman.
Class 40: Open Dog (4)
1) Manser & Lowton-Humphries’s Esp CH Manit’s Nothing Compares To U with Nujax (Imp USA). B/S of superb construction and presented in excellent condition. Super head and expression. Cobby, short coupled, great front assembly. Neck flowing into well placed shoulders and gently sloping topline to the tail which was set and carried beautifully. When moving he had both reach at the front and a powerful rear action. DCC, BOB. Pleased to see him awarded BIS.
2) Sanders & Thomas’s CH Zrules Fisticuffs (Imp USA). A great head on this P/S male. Neck placed on well laid-back shoulders, good deep chest and spring of ribs, slightly larger than 1 but nicely proportioned. His coat was excellent in both colour and texture. Moved well in all directions and was unfortunate to meet 1. RDCC.
3) White’s Deansgate Lester Square.
Class 41: Champion Dog (3)
1) Woods & Woods’s CH Penbro Man About Town. Cobby male with an excellent P/S jacket. Correct head and lovely ears which he used well creating a super expression. Good front assembly and depth to chest. Moved well in profile but a little wayward coming and going.
2) Newman, Day & Uyru’s CH/Jap CH Joker Land’s First Call (Imp JPN). Head in good proportions, nice length to neck, jacket correct for colour and texture. Slighter in body than 1. Moved very well in profile, would prefer a truer action coming &going.
3) Nunney’s CH Jastella Born Leader.
Class 42: Veteran Dog (2,1abs)
1) William’s Saraswati Bonno Blue with Lyzahro (Imp MKD). 8.5year old W. Good length to head and neck. A pleasing expression. Very alert and enjoying his day out. Moved well in profile retaining his topline. BVIB.
Class 43: Minor Puppy Bitch (6,1abs)
1) Boyle’s Stornovar Déjà Vu. Lovely feminine head and ear carriage creating the right look. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Great front assembly, spring of ribs and a perfectly held topline on the move. Her overall shape created a super image. Moved out well in all directions, one I shall watch with interest. BPB, BPIB. Pleased to see her awarded BPIS.

2) Cox’s Traviston’s Crème De La Creme. Nice head and ears which she used incredibly well, so alert this youngster. A very good coarse jacket, such a shame that she was carrying a little too much weight today. Moved okay.

Class 46: Post Graduate Bitch (11,6abs)

BPD

Class 20: Junior Dog (0)
Class 21: Post Graduate Dog (0)
Class 22: Limit Dog (2,1abs)

Class 23: Open Dog (4,1abs)
1)Galbraiths Gloris Glorious With Fostergiants(IMP RUS) Black, lives up to his name and on the day without doubt the one I would have taken home, classic male of ideal size, glorious head with good length and strength to muzzle, dark oval eyes, correct bite, neat ears, excellent neckline with slight arch flowing into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, he has the desired forechest and not just a wad of fluff, deep well sprung ribs, well developed short loins, correct sabre tail, strong powerful hindquarters, expertly presented with a harsh wiry coat all over, came into his own on the move with perfect footfall front, back and in profile, was delighted to award him his 2nd CC and BOB and hope he gets his well deserved title soon. Res Best In Show.
2)Mcdonalds Velournoir Demetrius Neptune, Tall dog, good length to head, dark oval eye, he made a decent shape on the stack but rather narrow all through and lacking bodyweight for a mature male, coat was okay, tail could be straighter, he moved freely in profile but rather close coming and going.
